"Our December
meeting was well attended and kicked off with Steve Richards showing us the
wonderful sights that we can see during the next month, especially in and around
the Orion region.
The highlight
of our evening was having Nick Howes, one of the country's leading solar
imagers, give us a talk, supported with images, on viewing and imaging the Sun.
This was instructional and presented in a most professional manner, our thanks
go to him for his contribution.
During the
break, Leanne provided us with some delicious mince pies to go with our tea,
and a raffle was held for a Moon map signed by Sir Patrick Moore, and other
prizes. This raffle raised a few funds which will be used to book a future
speaker or two. Many thanks to those who gave generously.
The evening ended with Ed Samson's regular " Way around
the Stars" feature.
I did mention
at the beginning of the evening that Trevor & I would be pleased to appoint
a 'Business Manager' from the members, in the new year to assist us in
fulfilling some of the aims set out previously by the Society. This appointment
would include liaising with the local schools, youth clubs and authorities to
put our 'outreach' aims into action.
Next year is the International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009) so some of
our aims would fit in nicely with this occasion.
If anyone is willing to help the Society with this
appointment, please contact Trevor or myself.
All that now remains is to wish you all a Happy Christmas and New
Year, together with many clear skies." |
